 【PBA】 PBA Spare Shots

Clara Guerrero Wins Record-Tying Third PBA Regional Title in Texas

Colombia native Clara Guerrero, now residing in Pflugerville, Texas, defeated Anthony Lavery-Spahr of Pasadena, Texas, 246-236, to claim a record-tying third PBA Regional title Sunday in the fifth annual PBA Odessa Southwest Open, presented by Columbia 300 at Astro Bowl in Odessa, Texas.

Guerrero rallied from an early deficit behind two turkeys and she had an opportunity to close out Lavery-Spahr with a double in her 10th frame. A 7 pin on her second shot gave Lavery-Spahr a chance for the win, but needing a double, he could only manage the first strike.

In addition to the $2,500 first place check, Guerrero joined California’s Missy Parkin as the second woman to win three PBA Regional titles.

After finishing seventh in qualifying, Guerrero received a bye to the Round of 12 where she defeated amateur Seth Rutledge from Dallas, 2-1, in their best-of-three-game match. She followed with a 2-0 victory over Mike Bailey of Allen, Texas, and a 238-197 win over Jakob Butturff from Phoenix in the semifinal round.

Lavery-Spahr advanced to the finals by defeating Joe Findling from Mesquite, Texas, 2-0, in the Round of 8, and qualifying leader Martin Bedford from Altus, Okla., 233-228, in the semifinal round.

Fresh off his Professional Bowlers Association Rookie of the Year season, Swedish two-handed star Jesper Svensson turned back Martin Larsen’s bid for his first title, 228-222, to win his fourth PBA Tour title in the Brunswick Euro Challenge Sunday at Dream-Bowl Palace.

Svensson, the 21-year-old World Youth Champion, won $12,700 along with his sixth European Bowling Tour title in the 13th annual Brunswick Euro Challenge after Larsen’s pocket 7-10 in the ninth frame gave him a chance to win. Needing a double and seven pins in his 10th frame to ice the victory, Svensson responded with a double and nine pins.

Martin Larsen (above left) started the three-player, all-Sweden stepladder finals with a 245-175 victory over Jesper Larsen (above right). The two Larsens are not related.

 【PBA International-WBT】 Kingdom of Bahrain Open 【Finals】

Home Country Favorite Teenage Star Ahmed Al Awadhi Wins 14th Kingdom of Bahrain Open

Home country teenage star Ahmed Al Awadhi survived a two-game title match, defeating Finland’s Osku Palermaa, 240-220 after losing a 234-230 decision in game one, to win the 14th Kingdom of Bahrain Open Wednesday at Funland Bowling Center.

Al Awadhi, a 16-year-old member of Bahrain’s national bowling team, was top qualifier for the Kingdom of Bahrain Open finals, topping Palermaa by seven pins and fellow Bahraini Yousef Falah by 34 pins, thanks to seven-pins-per-game handicap awarded to youth bowler and women in the event. Al Awadhi won the $25,000 first prize, but didn’t get credit for a PBA International Tour title because he is an amateur.

As top qualifier for the three-player stepladder finals, Al Awadhi’s opponent had to beat him twice to win the event. After Palermaa won the first game, Al Awadhi won the decisive game by 20 pins, not needing his handicap allowance. Palermaa advanced to the championship match with a 179-165 decision over Falah.

The Kingdom of Bahrain Open was the second PBA International-World Bowling Tour event of the 2016 season.
