【PBA】 PBA News Kulick Wins First Career PBA Regional Tour Title
Kelly Kulick Kelly Kulick's whirlwind summer just keeps getting better. Kulick, who in June became the first woman to earn a full-season exemption on the Denny's PBA Tour, became just the second woman in history to win a PBA Regional Tour title when she won the PBA East Region King Pin Lanes Open Sunday at King Pin Lanes. Kulick defeated fellow exempt bowler Tommy Delutz Jr., 20-19, in a two-ball roll-off after the two tied at 221 after 12 frames in the one-game title match. After both struck on the first ball of the roll-off, Kulick struck on her second ball while Delutz knocked down just nine, giving Kulick her first career PBA title. Ironically, King Pin Lanes was also the site of Liz Johnson's first career PBA Regional Tour title last season, which made her the first woman in PBA history to win a singles title of any kind. Kulick finished second at a PBA Regional Tour event in 2004 at King Pin Lanes, falling to Jim Tomek Jr. in the title match. "I'm thrilled. I'm so exited to see my name on a banner now," said Kulick, referring to the champions' banner each bowler earns after winning a PBA title. "That's what I wanted most was to walk in a bowling center and see my name hanging above the lanes. One of my goals going into next season was to win a regional title to kind of validate myself and be able to say 'if I can win a regional I can win on Tour.' That will definitely give me more confidence when I'm out there full time." Two weeks after finishing second to another exempt bowler - Brian Himmler - in the PBA East Region Bowlers Supply Open - Kulick advanced to the title match again. She was third after qualifying, then knocked off William Barlow, 3-2, in the Round of 16, James Wallace, 2-1, in the Round of 8 and Jeff Voght, 224-186, in the semifinals. In the title match, Delutz could have doubled in the 10th frame to beat Kulick, but he left a 4-6-7-9 split to send the match to a roll-off. The Union, N.J. native earned $2,500 for first. In June, Kulick finished sixth out of 140 bowlers to earn one of 10 exemptions awarded in the 2006 Denny's PBA Tour Trials. She will be one of 58 exempt bowlers throughout the 2006-07 Denny's PBA Tour season, which begins Oct. 24-29 with the 2006 USBC Masters in Milwaukee, Wis.

【PBA】 PBA Senior Decatur Open 【Final】 Charlie's the Champ
Charlie Tapp The 2006 PBA Senior Decatur Open was an exciting finish to the PBA Senior Tour season and gave Charlie Tapp his second PBA Senior Tour title Tuesday at Spare Time Lanes. Tapp rolled a 198 in the final game against David Ozio to take the match, 2-0, after Ozio left a solid 10 pin in the 10th frame and missed the spare to lose the match. "I figured there was going to be another game, and it just happened to work out the way it worked out," said Tapp, who was prepared to continue bowling, expecting Ozio to make the spare and push the match to a deciding game three. "I never thought in my wildest dreams that he'd miss that spare." Tapp won his first PBA Senior Tour title last year in the PBA Senior Jackson Open, marking the second year in a row that Tapp has won the last event of the season. Henry Gonzalez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured his first two PBA Senior Tour titles in the first event of the last two seasons. "The last three weeks I bowled really, really well," said Tapp. "It all worked out in the end." Both Ozio and Tapp swept their semifinal matches, 2-0, and both finished with identical pinfalls of 6,210 for 28 games. Linda Kelly (Dayton, Ohio), the first woman to compete in a PBA Senior Tour event, placed ninth overall. The event marks the final tournament of the 2006 PBA Senior Tour season. |

【PBA】 PBA Senior Lake County Open 【Final】 First For Young
Jimmy Young Another new champion reigned in the 2006 PBA Senior Lake County Open as Jimmy Young won his first PBA Senior Tour Title Thursday at Olympia Lanes. Young was the No. 19 seed coming into match play, defeating No. 30 Steve Stein (Staten Island, N.Y.) 3-0, No. 3 Dale Eagle (Tavares, Fla.) 3-1, No. 6 Roger Kossert (Lithia, Fla.) 3-0, and No. 2 David Ozio (Beaumont, Texas) 2-1 before meeting Ron Winger (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the championship match. "I'm just about as excited as I can be," said Young. "To win your first title and for it to be a national title on top of that, it's a great feeling." The title match was close, with Winger able to secure game one (235-217) before falling to Young in games two and three (222-220, 210-206). Originally from Pasadena, Texas, Young wanted to thank all of the friends and family that have supported him in his bowling career, especially his mom. "On Sunday mornings we'd bowl two games after church and then go out for turkey dinner," Young said. "And she finally talked the men that worked at the counter into letting us bowl in a league. I'd like to dedicate this title to her." The past three Senior Lake County Open champions, - Vince Mazzanti Jr. (Levittown, Pa.) in 2003, Roger Kossert (Lithia, Fla.) in 2004, and Gene Vincent (Decatur, Ill.) in 2005, - were also first time PBA Senior Tour titlists. In one of Thursday's match play highlights, PBA Hall of Famers Tom Baker and David Ozio met in an exciting Round of 8 match. Baker (Buffalo, N.Y.) was able sneak by Ozio in the first game by two pins (269-267) with Ozio stealing the next 258-244. Then, it was a perfect 300 game for Ozio in game three and a 267 for the Texan in game four to secure the match. Ozio was the only bowler in the top 15 to qualify for the semifinals. |
