【PBA】 PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions 【Final】 Patrick Healey Jr. Claims PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions
Patrick Healey Jr. Needing only nine pins in the 10th frame to claim his first PBA major title, Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico, struck three times en route to defeating Randy Pederson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., 222-188, to win the PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Healey began the game with three consecutive strikes before leaving the 10-pin standing in the 4th frame. He struck in the 5th frame but left the 4 and 7 pins in the 6th, giving him a slight 112-102 lead with four frames remaining. Pedersen struck in the 7th but left the 1-2-4-10 washout in the 8th frame and only knocked down three, putting Healey back in control. Healey struck in five of his final six shots, giving him the win, the $100,000 first-place prize and the two-year Tour exemption. "I'm calm on the outside but fighting through it inside," Healey said. "The lane conditions played difficult today and I paid the price for it. But you have to have patience and perseverance to battle through it, and I did. I'm proud of my performance." In the first semi-final, Pedersen defeated Brian Himmler, Cincinnati, Ohio, 278-227. Pedersen struck in his first six frames to take a commanding 169-107 lead. Himmler came on strong at the end finishing with six consecutive strikes, but it was not enough in the end. The second semi-final came down to the 10th frame as Healey defeated Chris Barnes, Dallas, 210-192. Healey struck to start the final frame, but had a six count on his next ball and left two pins standing on his conversion attempt. That gave Barnes a chance to win the game by striking out, however, he left the 7-pin standing in his first shot, advancing Healey to the finals. |

【PBA】 PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions 【Round 3】 Final Four Set For PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions
Brian Himmler With a trip to the finals of the PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions on the line, Brian Himmler, Cincinnati, Ohio, defeated Ritchie Allen, Tulsa, Okla., three-games-to-two in the round of 8 Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Himmler, who has been down at least one game in all three of his match-play appearances this week, rolled a 300 in the decisive fifth game to send him to the finals. Himmler, who was down 2-0, took the final three games (277-205, 243-219, 300-231) to seal the win. "It seems like later in the match is when I start getting comfortable on the lane," Himmler said. "I just feel like I've been underachieving in winning titles so today I just hung in there." Himmler will face Randy Pedersen, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in the semi-finals. Pedersen, who hasn't advanced to the finals of a PBA major since 1995, defeated Steve Wilson, Lake Worth, Fla., 3-2. Pedersen put the pressure on Wilson after throwing three consecutive strikes in the 10th frame. Needing to double, Wilson only managed to knock down seven pins in his first attempt, giving Pedersen a 211-198 victory. Patrick Healey Jr, Mexico, battled back from a 2-1 deficit to take the final two games and the match over Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., 3-2. In game five, Healey struck in his first seven frames and then twice in the 10th to pick up the 265-207 victory. Healey will face Chris Barnes, Dallas, who rolled his first 300 game of the season en route to taking a 3-1 win over Ricky Ward, North Fort Myers, Fla.
【PBA】 PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions 【Round 2】 The King is Dethroned
Randy Pedersen Randy Pedersen, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., swept Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., in the round of 16, three-games-to-none, Saturday in the PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Couch, who was the three-time defending champion, never found his shot and struggled as Pedersen took the first game, 237-184. Pedersen averaged 254 over three games while Couch only managed a 194.67 mark. "I had a great shot today and my ball found the pocket," said Pedersen. "Going against the three-time champion of this event, I knew my work was cut out for me, but the lanes broke down great for me and I took advantage." Pedersen will take on Steve Wilson, Lake Worth, Fla., in the round of 8. Wilson advanced by defeating Mike DeVaney, Escondido, Calif., 3-1. Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., toppled Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind., 3-1, as three of their four games were decided by one pin. Duke, who has been recovering from an upper arm injury, held off a charging McCune, who tore cartilage in his knee two weeks ago. In the first game, Duke struck in the 10th frame while McCune could only manage a spare and Duke won, 238-237. After Duke took the second match 234-212, McCune stayed alive in the third, winning 246-245. In the fourth game, McCune had a 19-pin lead going into the 9th frame, but Duke struck out and took the match, 237-236. "We just kept matching each other shot for shot and it was close the whole way through," said Duke, who will face Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico, in the round of 8 tonight. "I knew I had about a four-percent chance to win that last match and I got lucky when McCune missed (in the 10th)." |

【PBA】 PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions 【Round 1】 McCune Upsets Koivuniemi
Eugene McCune In one the of biggest upsets of the day, Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind., defeated last weekend's champion Mika Koivuniemi, Ann Arbor, Mich., three-games-to-one in the round of 32 Friday in the PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions at Mohegan Sun Arena. McCune, who injured his right knee in the PBA Geico Open in West Babylon, N.Y. two weeks ago, tied Koivuniemi in game four, 196-196. After trading strikes in the first two one-ball, sudden death roll-offs, McCune struck in the third extra frame while Koivuniemi left a pin standing. "I felt okay coming into today," McCune, who owns one PBA Tour title, said. "I know that Mika throws firm, which has a tendency to go through the break, and since I couldn't throw hard today I had a little bit of the advantage. I just had to take it one shot at a time." McCune's injury, which includes torn cartledge in his right knee, will have to be treated to some extent over the PBA Tour's three-week break. McCune has a couple of options in terms of treating of the injury. He can undergo surgery that will require him to miss the second half of the season, or choose a minor procedure that would keep him out of competition for about three weeks. Saturday morning McCune will face Norm Duke, Clemont, Fla., in the round of 16. Duke advanced by defeating Chris Hayden, Orlando, Fla., 3-1. Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., defeated Dale Eagle, Tavares, Fla., 3-2 in one of the closest matches of the day. Williams took the final game down to the last frame and came away with a 217-213 victory. In one of the most anticipated matchups of the first day, hall of famer Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo. defeated Senior Tour representative and fellow hall of famer Dave Soutar, Bradenton, Fla., 3-0. With the win, Weber moved one step closer to picking up the second Triple Crown of his career, needing only to win this week's event to accomplish the feat. Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., continued the quest for his fourth consecutive Tournament of Champions title by knocking off Bryon Smith, Roseburg, Ore., 3-1. |

【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Final】 Koivuniemi Rolls a Classic
Mika Koivuniemi Mika Koivuniemi, Ann Arbor, Mich., made history Sunday afternoon, tossing the 16th televised 300 game in the history of the PBA in his wild card match against Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., for a 300-248 win. Koivuniemi went on to beat Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., in the championship match, 259-237, at Bradley Bowl. Koivuniemi dominated all day tossing 32 strikes in 35 frames over three games to take his third career Tour title. The three-year pro enjoyed a huge payday, collecting $40,000 for winning the title as well as $30,000 in incentives from the PBA ($10,000) and tournament sponsor Cambridge Credit Counseling ($20,000) for the perfect game. "It's unbelievable," said Koivuniemi. "It's going to hit me in a couple of hours. It's a nice thing, but my focus was to win the tournament." In the title game, Koivuniemi struck in his first seven frames before converting a single pin spare in the 8th frame. Allen bowled well, striking in eight of 11 frames, but it wasn't enough to stop the red-hot Koivuniemi. Allen took home $20,000 for his runner-up finish. The title victory assures that Koivuniemi will make next week's Dexter Tournament of Champions. He was on the bubble this week, sitting in the 28th - and final - roster spot of the most recent PBA champions to make next week's field. Koivuniemi advanced to the finals by defeating Peter Hernandez, Miami, 277-206, in the second semifinal. Koivuniemi struck in 11 of his 12 frames. Hernandez, making his first career PBA Tour finals appearance, fell behind early with an open in the 2nd frame, and could not recover. In the first semifinal, Allen defeated Eric Forkel, Las Vegas, 236-183. Allen struck in six of his first eight frames while Forkel struck just twice over his first seven frames, and failed to convert the 6-7-10 split in the 1st and 6th frames. Hernandez and Forkel took home $10,000 for their 3rd place finishes while Couch earned $9,000 for his 5th place finish. With his $70,000 payday, Koivuniemi has earned $120,250 in winnings this season. "We are awarding Mika $20,000, and donating $20,000 to Junior Achievement, which helps our youth understand the mechanics of entrepreneurship and business," commented Chris Viale, COO of Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. "The donation also gives us an opportunity to educate our youth with the knowledge necessary to sustain a bright, financial future." Notes: Patrick Allen has now made the final match in three of his six career televised finals appearancesノafter clinching his win against Hernandez, Koivuniemi challenged Couch for the title in next week's T of C...upon hearing that, Couch popped back on to the set and ruefully accepted Koivuniemi's challenge...Koivuniemi's three-game series of 836 was 14 pins shy of the PBA Tour record for a three-game series on TV...that was set by Bob Learn Jr. in the 1996 PBA Flagship Open in Erie, Pa. |

【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Round 5】 Koivuniemi Back to the Finals
Mika Koivuniemi Mika Koivuniemi, Ann Arbor, Mich., defeated Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., four-games-to-three in the round of 8 Saturday evening in the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic at Bradley Bowl. Couch struck in frames 5-12 to win the first game, 260-246. Koivuniemi evened the match at 1-1 with a 267-259 win before tossing his second 300 game of the tournament in the third game. In the seventh game, the two-time Tour title winner started the game with nine strikes to take the match from Couch with a 274-247 win. "I tried to make some good shots out there," said Koivuniemi, who averaged 279.50 in his four wins against Couch. "I knew the match was going to be high scoring. I'm just going to do the same thing tomorrow and make 12 good shots." Couch, the top qualifier among the four bowlers who lost in the round of 8 will be the wildcard in Sunday's final round. He will again take on Koivuniemi, this time in the wildcard match. In other matches, Eric Forkel, Las Vegas, came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Tommy Jones, Greenville, S.C., 4-3. Forkel, a five-time Tour winner, shot games of 285 and 258 to close out the victory. Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., defeated Chris Hayden, Orlando, 4-2. Allen was down 2-1 before he won the next three games with scores of 269, 259 and 237 to advance to his third finals of the season. Peter Hernandez, Miami, will make his first career finals appearance after a 4-1 win over Tony Reyes, San Jose, Calif. Reyes failed to strike to begin the 10th frame of the first game, and lost 227-226. Hernandez, a two-year Tour veteran, then won three of the next four games, including a 257-238 victory in game five, to advance. Allen will face Forkel in the first semifinal, while Hernandez will face the winner of the wildcard match in the second semifinal.
【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Round 4】 Hayden Tops Smith to Advance
Chris Hayden Looking to make his first appearance in the round of 8 this season, Chris Hayden, Orlando, Fla. defeated Robert Smith, Thousand Oaks, Calif., four-games-to-two in the round 16 Saturday afternoon in the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic at Bradley Bowl. Hayden, who hasn't advanced to the round of 8 since winning the 2003 PBA VIA Bowling Open in Orlando, Fla., broke a 1-1 tie by winning three of the next four games to take the match. In game six, Smith left the 7 and 8 pins in the 10th frame, and only knocked down the 7, giving Hayden the win, 228-226. "My game has been progressing throughout the season," Hayden said. "I changed my footwork a couple of weeks ago, and that adjustment has been the biggest key in my improvement." Hayden will face Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., Saturday evening. Allen advanced to the round of 8 by defeating Hugh Miller, Seattle, 4-2. Regardless of the outcome, Allen is assured to make his third finals appearance of the season. He was the top qualifier this week, and can do no worse than claim the wildcard. "I'll have to change my strategy tonight because he (Allen) is a lefty," Hayden said about facing his first lefty this week. "I'll have to factor the way he plays the lanes but also trust what I've been doing all week." Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., who claimed his first career PBA Tour title in 1993 at Bradley Bowl, defeated Michael Haugen Jr., Mesa, Ariz., 4-2. Couch will compete against Mika Koivuniemi, Ann Arbor, Mich., who defeated Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, Ind., 4-1. Tony Reyes, San Jose, Calif., defeated Michael Cimba, Monroeville, Penn., 4-3. Reyes will face Peter Hernandez, Miami, Fla., in the round of 8. Hernandez advanced by defeating Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y., 4-2. Notes:This week's event features pattern E, the same pattern that was used during Hayden's career PBA Tour title. |

Tommy Jones Four-year PBA Tour member Tommy Jones, Greenville, S.C., defeated Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia, Manalapan, N.J., four-games-to-one in the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic Friday evening at Bradley Bowl. Jones took game one, 219-203, before Petraglia, who won his first PBA Tour title in the 1966 PBA Ft. Smith Open, took game two, 258-255. After that, Jones took the next three games, posting scores of 268, 234 and 275. "(Johnny's) been one of the older guys that has been very kind and polite to me," said Jones. "I have the utmost respect for Johnny, and he's a real class act...it was an honor to bowl against him." Five matches went the distance, including Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., beating amateur Chris Rebstock, Middletown, Conn., 4-3. Allen, the No. 1 seed in match play, struck in frames 6-11 of the final game to win the contest, 254-214. Tony Reyes, San Jose, Calif., defeated 2000 PBA Tour Rookie of the Year Joe Ciccone, 4-3. Ciccone had evened the match at 3-3 with a 226-214 win before Reyes won the final game, 235-226. Hall of Famer Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, defeated Chris Sand, Chesterfield, Mich., 4-3. Aulby will face Mika Koivuniemi, Ann Arbor, Mich., who defeated Anders Ohman, Sweden, 4-2, in the round of 16. In other matches, Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J., fell to Michael Cimba, Monroeville, Pa., 4-3. Cimba was making his first career PBA Tour match play appearance. Notes: Doug Kent and Mika Koivuniemi both tossed 300 games in the round of 32, bringing the tournament total to 17...the 17 perfect games is the most in one tournament since the 2002 PBA Flagship Open had 19 perfect games.
【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Round 2】 The Perfect Sandwich
Patrick Allen Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., threw bookend 300 games Friday afternoon and averaged 251.00 to continue to lead the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic at Bradley Bowl. Allen, who began the day with a 70-pin lead over Tommy Jones, Greenville, S.C., started off with a perfect game, his first since the round of 16 in the PBA Miller High Life Open. He tossed a second 300 game in his final game to finish with a 4,518 18-game pinfall. "I knew I couldn't go on cruise control at the start of the day," said Allen. "It was nice to get off to such a good start because the way the scores were going, I knew I would have to continue to shoot well to make it." Allen was 178 pins behind the all-time, 18-game pinfall record set by Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., in the 1994 PBA True Value Open in Peoria, Ill., who rolled 4,696. Allen will now face amateur Chris Rebstock, Middletown, Conn., in the round of 32. Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., finished second with 4,469, 49 pins behind Allen. Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, qualified 4th with 4,406 and Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J., finished with 4,350 to place 7th. Aulby, Indianapolis, Peter Hernandez, Miami, and Johnny Petraglia, Manalapan, N.J., also rolled 300 games on the day and pushed the tournament total to 15. That total is the most since the 2002 PBA Flagship Open, where 19 perfect games were thrown. Current PBA World Points leader Brad Angelo, Lockport, N.Y., finished in 55th with 4,106 and missed the cut. Also failing to qualify for match play were Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., 4,159, and Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., 4,167. |

【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Round 1 - B Squad】 Miller Makes His Move
Hugh Miller Hugh Miller, Seattle, led the second of two qualifying squads with a 2,249 nine-game pinfall in the first round of the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic Thursday evening at Bradley Bowl. Miller, a lefty with seven career PBA Tour titles, entered this week 98th in the PBA World Point Rankings with 16,190 points, but had a strong start with games of 235, 257, 269 and 277 to begin the round. "The lanes are high scoring here," said Miller, who sits 3rd overall after the first round. "The past history of this house shows that lefties score well here. I haven't been here since 1991, but it used to be one of my favorite stops." A season-high 10 bowlers tossed 300 games on the day. The record for most 300's in one tournament is 24, done in the 1995 PBA Peoria Open. Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., leads all bowlers with 2,326. Allen, who won the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open earlier this season, was 31 pins shy of tying the PBA record for the best nine-game pinfall. Dave D'Entremont shot 2,357 in the 2002 PBA Flagship Open. Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J., sits tied for 6th with 2,214 while fellow left-hander Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla. is 19th with 2,163. Local amateur, Chris Rebstock, Middletown, Conn., is 10th with 2,202. Tom Smallwood, Flushing, Mich., was 64th with 2,073 and was the last qualifier to make it into the next round. Last week's title winner in the PBA Geico Open, Patrick Healey Jr., finished 109th with 1,980. Notes: The 10, 300-games are the most in one PBA event since 13 were tossed in the 2001 PBA Silicon Valley Open...Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, and Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., both threw two 300-games that week...Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., skipped this week's event...Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind., who withdrew from last week's PBA Geico Open with loose cartlidge in his right knee, finished tied for 100th Thursday with 1,997.
【PBA】 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic 【Round 1 - A Squad】 Allen Back in Full Force After Illness
Patrick Allen Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., rolled a 2,326 nine-game pinfall to lead the first of two squads Thursday afternoon in the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic at Bradley Bowl. Allen, who missed the PBA Geico Open last week with chicken pox, averaged 258.44 to set the pace for the rest of the field. "It was nice to get off to a good start," said Allen, who had a high game of 289. "I didn't know how I would feel after missing last week, but I felt good after practicing earlier in the week, and I was lucky to have the right ball in my hand." Allen's scoring pace was only 31 pins behind the nine-game record set by Dave D'Entremont, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, who rolled 2,357 in the PBA Flagship Open in Erie, Pa., in 2002. There were five 300 games rolled in the early squad, which was already one shy of the season-high of six, done in the PBA Miller High Life Open and the PBA Empire State Open. Ken Simard, Tony Reyes, Arturo Quintero, Steve Jaros, and Don Yoshihara all achieved perfection. PBA Hall of Famers Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., and Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., both put themselves in a good position to make the round of 64. Weber finished 27th after rolling 2,088, while Williams ended up 29th after posting 2,082. Senior PBA member Dale Eagle, Tavares, Fla., who will be one of two senior bowlers in the Dexter PBA Tournament of Champions next week, stood in 10th with 2,169. Local amateur Chris Rebstock, Middletown, Conn., used a 299 in his seventh game to jump into 5th with 2,202. |
