【PBA】 PBA Geico Open 【Final】 Healey Finally Gets His Second Title
Patrick Healey Jr. Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico City, struck in five of the first six frames en route to a 235-214 title victory over Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., Sunday afternoon in the PBA Geico Open at AMF Babylon Lanes. Shafer, who was looking to become the first back-to-back titlist since Walter Ray Williams Jr. accomplished the feat in 2000, couldn't keep up with Healey. Previous to his win, Healey was just 1-4 with a 213.80 average in championship games. However, Healey didn't let that get to him as he struck in the 8th and 9th frames to close out Shafer. "I knew I would be in it because I had exceptional ball reaction," said Healey, who won $40,000. "I made a ball change before my first match with Jeff (Lizzi) and that was the difference for me today." Shafer, who won $20,000, toppled leading Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Johnson in the first semi-final, 245-244. Johnson struck in the first six frames, but left the 7-10 split to give Shafer hope. That was all the room Shafer needed as he struck in his next four frames, and edged out Johnson to win the match and advance to the championship match. Healey also started off his semi-final match with Lizzi with the first six strikes before leaving a 4-pin in the 7th frame. Lizzi, Sandusky, Ohio, stood no chance, throwing just three strikes the entire match as Healey won, 259-184. To make it to the semi-finals, Lizzi threw two strikes in the 10th frame of the wild card match and closed out local favorite Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., 227-222. Lizzi and Johnson each earned $10,000 for their 3rd place finishes while Delutz won $9,000 for his 5th place finish. |

【PBA】 PBA Geico Open 【Round 5】 Johnson Jumps to Head of the Class
Chris Johnson Three of four matches went the full seven games in Saturday evening's round of 8 in the PBA Geico Open at AMF Babylon Lanes. Rookie Chris Johnson, Garland, Texas, downed PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., 4-3. Weber struck in his final eight frames to take the first game, 240-237, but Johnson rebounded to even the match with a 234-226 win in the next game. With Johnson holding a 3-2 lead, Weber evened the match with a 248-190 victory to force a seventh game. "I knew I sill had one game left, and it wasn't over at all," said Johnson, who took the final game 224-211. "I just did what had gotten me through the week." Jeff Lizzi, Sandusky, Ohio, moved on to the final round by beating Tony Reyes, San Jose, Calif., 4-3. With the match tied 2-2, Lizzi doubled in the 10th frame of game five to win 200-195. After Reyes evened the match at 3-3 with a 196-170 victory, Lizzi closed the door with a 212-196 win in the deciding game. Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico City, also needed seven games to seal the win over Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y. Delutz took the first two games before Healey won the next two. Delutz held a 3-2 lead thanks to a 236-234 win in game five before Healey rebounded to win the final two games. Despite the loss, Delutz is the wild card in Sunday's final round, thanks to his top 18-game qualifying mark earlier in the week. He will face Lizzi in the wild card match and the winner of their match will await Healey in the semifinals. In the night's other match, Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., advanced to the finals for the second straight week with a 4-1 win over 2003 PBA Rookie of the Year Brad Angelo, Lockport, N.Y. Shafer averaged 260.50 in his four wins and will face Chris Johnson in the other semifinal.
【PBA】 PBA Geico Open 【Round 4】 Lizzi Into the Round of 8
Jeff Lizzi Down three-games-to-one to rookie Tim Mack in the round 16 on Saturday morning, Jeff Lizzi, Sandusky, Ohio, knew to get back in the match, he had to get the feel back in his game in the PBA Geico Open at AMF Babylon Lanes. After a record six matches went the full seven games last week in the round of 16, five more went the distance this week including the Lizzi-Mack match. Lizzi, who beat Michael Haugen Jr., Victorville, Calif., 4-2 in the round of 32, couldn't make the right adjustments in the first few games and quickly found himself down early. "I looked up and realized I was down 3-1 and knew I had to get back in the match," said Lizzi. "Tim (Mack) could have actually beat me in the third game, but he opened and I won that game to stay in it." Tied at three, Mack missed two single pin spares to hand the match to Lizzi, 220-168. Lizzi will go on to face Tony Reyes, San Bruno, Calif., who defeated last week's runner up Chris Barnes, Dallas, 4-1. Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., the bowler who defeated Barnes in the championship match last week in the PBA Empire State Open, toppled Tim Criss, Bel Air, Md., 4-3. Shafer will face another New Yorker, Brad Angelo, Lockport, who beat Steve Hoskins, Palm Harbor, Fla., 4-3. Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., came back from a 3-0 deficit to down Jim Tomek Jr., Camp Hill, Pa., 4-3. Delutz is assured of making the finals because he was the top bowler after the first 18 games of qualifying. Delutz will take on Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico, who also needed the full seven games to defeat local favorite James Wallace, North Babylon, N.Y. |

【PBA】 PBA Geico Open 【Round 3】 Pedersen Pounds Competition
Randy Pedersen Randy Pedersen, Ft, Lauderdale, Fla., beat Jason Queen, Oreana, Ill., four-games-to-two Friday night during the round of 32 match play in the PBA Geico Open at AMF Babylon Lanes. Up 3-2, Pederson was forced to convert single pin spares in his first six frames of the final game before striking in the 7th. He went on to defeat Queen, 197-171. "I missed (match play) by two pins in Philadelphia, and the way my last game was going tonight it would have been easy to say 'here we go again'," Pedersen said. "I wouldn't let that happen." Pedersen, who owns 13 career PBA Tour titles, is advancing to the round of 16 for the first time since the 2002 PBA Cambridge Credit Classic, where he was swept by Pete Weber. Saturday, Pedersen will have his chance for revenge, as he again faces Weber in the round of 16. In other matches, Tim Mack and Weber both rolled 300 games to record sweeps in their respective matches. Mack, a Tour rookie from Garfield, N.J., defeated Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y., while Weber, St. Ann., Mo., beat Ray Edwards, Middle Island, N.Y. Last week's title winner, Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., needed seven games to defeat Ronnie Russell, Indianapolis. 【PBA】 PBA Geico Open 【Round 2】 Deja Vu for Hoskins
Steve Hoskins Steve Hoskins, Palm Harbor, Fla., shot a 4,178 18-game pinfall Friday afternoon, and held on to second place for the second consecutive day in the PBA Geico Open. Hoskins, who rolled 2,133 over nine games yesterday, shot 2,045 today and accredits that success to the fact that he is finally able play his own game. "This is the first time all year that I can throw the ball the way I want to," said Hoskins, who averaged 232.11 over 18 games. "The past few weeks, I've had to make adjustments and didn't really feel comfortable, but I think I've set myself up really well for match play." Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., finished as the top qualifier with 4,237, which was 59 pins ahead of Hoskins. He will go into the round of 32 as the No. 2 seed based on points from the last 20 PBA Tour tournaments. Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., is the first seed after qualifying tied for 24th with 3,926. Leading Rookie of the Year candidate, Chris Johnson, Garland, Texas, and Tour veteran Dave Ozio, Beaumont, Texas, made the biggest jumps of the day. Johnson, who finished 60th yesterday, matched Hoskins' set with 2,045, placing him 15th with 3,968. Ozio shot 2,011 on the day and moved from 62nd to 27th, finishing with 3,921. Season Tour winners Steve Jaros, Bolingbrook, Ill., and Brian Himmler, Cincinnati, both failed to qualify for match play. D.J. Archer D.J. Archer, McKinney, Texas, led the second of two squads Thursday evening at AMF Babylon Lanes in the PBA Geico Open, despite rolling a 198 in his first game. Archer, whose best finish of the year was 15th in the PBA Greater Kansas City Classic, averaged 238.62 over the last eight games to finish 3rd overall after the first round. Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., leads after tossing a 2,226 nine-game pinfall earlier in the day. "I went on the Atkins diet earlier this week and I actually felt a lot better heading into my set," said Archer, who rolled 2,112 over nine games. "I threw the ball great all day, and I just made the adjustments I needed to." Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., who has missed two weeks this year with an upper arm injury, withdrew for the second time this season after completing five games. Robert Smith, Thousand Oaks, Calif., withdrew from the earlier squad with a sore right hip. Last week's winner at the PBA Empire State Open, Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., qualified 33rd with 1,970. Chris Barnes, Dallas, who was the runner-up to Shafer, also qualified after shooting 2,076 and finishing 6th. Leading rookies Chris Johnson, Garland, Texas, 1,914, and Tim Mack, Garfield, N.J., 2,004, made the cut, as did another of last week's finalists, Steve Jaros, Bolingbrook, Ill., 1,957. Rick Lawrence, Dallas, 1,934, and Chris Sand, Chesterfield, Mich., 1,913, were the only left-handers that managed to figure out the lanes and qualify for tomorrow's round of 64. PBA Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr, Ocala, Fla., and Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J., both missed the cut after finishing tied for 86th and tied for 131st, respectively.

Tommy Delutz Jr. Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., took the lead after early qualifying Thursday afternoon with a 2,226 nine-game pinfall in the PBA Geico Open at AMF Babylon Lanes. Delutz' 2,226 is the best nine-game qualifying score of the season, passing Danny Wiseman's 2,180 pin count in the first round of the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open two weeks ago. "I have a very strict practice routine, and if I'm not bowling well I work my way through slumps," said Delutz, who failed to cash in last week's PBA Empire State Open. "I've been bowling decent recently, but not really well." Delutz, a two-time PBA Tour title winner, began the day with a 279 game, followed by scores of 244, 259 and 245. 【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Final】 Shafer Simply Spectacular
Ryan Shafer Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., came up clutch after knocking down the 7-pin and striking in the 10th frame to beat Chris Barnes, 217-215, in the final match of the PBA Empire State Open Sunday at Bowlers Club. Shafer, who won $40,000 and earned a Tour exemption next season, converted a 2-6-7-10 split in 9th frame to give him a two-pin lead heading into the final frame. Barnes, Dallas, was working on a strike, and ended his day with a spare and a strike in the final frame. "I wasn't thinking about the exemption," said Shafer. "But it was in the back of my mind...in the finals, I had a good idea of what the lanes were like from bowling two games already." Shafer advanced to the final match with a 238-233 win over Hall of Famer, Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo. Down by five pins heading into the 7th frame, Shafer struck in his next five shots to secure the tight win. Barnes beat Michael Fagan, Greenlawn, N.Y., in the first semi-final, 247-195, using great pin reaction to strike early. Fagan, making his first career televised finals appearance, struck in the 1st frame, then alternated between open frames and spares until the 7th frame. In the wildcard match, Shafer beat Steve Jaros, Bolingbrook, Ill., 257-226. Shafer began the game with an open frame after leaving the "big 4" split, then struck in 10 of his next 11 shots. Jaros fell behind early, sparing in five of his first seven frames. Barnes earned $20,000 while Weber and Fagan both earned $10,000 for their 3rd place finish. Jaros received $9,000 for 5th place. |

【JPBA】 群馬オープン レディースボウリングトーナメント 【準決勝】 【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 5】 Fagan Mounts Big Comeback
Michael Fagan Down three-games-to-none in the round of 8 against Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico City, second-year pro Michael Fagan, Greenlawn, N.Y., rebounded for a 4-3 win Saturday night in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Empire State Open at Bowlers Club. "The last game was just grinded out, and it happened to go my way," said Fagan, who will be appearing in his first career televised finals. "It's only one game (tomorrow), and I'm not going to be able to make mistakes." Fagan, 23, began his comeback with a 248-230 win in game four, and stayed alive in the 6th, winning a sudden-death roll-off to force a 7th game. Fagan won the deciding game 196-192 after he struck in his final ball while Healey opened in the 10th frame. In other matches, Chris Barnes, Dallas, advanced against Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y. Barnes won, 4-2, despite losing the opening game 279-217. The five-time Tour title winner evened the match with a 268-247 win before Allen rebounded with a 290-277 victory in game three. With the match tied 2-2, Barnes struck twice in the 10th frame to win 234-228, then went on to win the 6th game 277-235. Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win over Steve Jaros, Bolingbrook, Ill. Jaros won the first game by seven pins before Weber took the next game, 257-225. Up 3-1, Weber struck in his first nine frames to start the 5th game en route to a 279-211 win. Despite the loss, Jaros advanced to the finals as the wildcard. Weber was the top qualifier, followed by Jaros. Since Weber won, Jaros became the highest qualifier to lose in the round of 8, giving him the pass to Sunday's finals. Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., beat Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., 4-3 to advance to his first finals appearance of the season. Down 3-2, Shafer rolled games of 249 and 269 to move on.
【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 4】 Barnes Blasts His Way to the Round of 8
Chris Barnes A record six matches went the distance in best-of-seven match play during the round of 16 Saturday in the PBA Empire State Open at Bowlers Club. Chris Barnes, Dallas, didn't know how he would come back from a three-games-to-none deficit against Mike Machuga, Erie, Pa. However, Barnes made a ball change and in turn, reeled off four consecutive wins to take the match, 4-3. "Mike dominated me through the first three games," said Barnes. "I found a shot after I made a ball change and I got some breaks along the way, especially in the 5th game." Barnes will now go on to face last week's champion, Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., who also needed seven games to defeat Rick Steelsmith, Wichita, Kan. In the decisive game, both shot 235 to force a one-ball roll-off. The two matched each other strike for strike through the first five sudden death frames, but after Allen struck in the 6th frame, Steelsmith left a solid 10-pin, giving the match to Allen. "I wanted to go first so I could put the pressure on Rick," said Allen, whose tiebreaker matched the all-time record set last week by Dave D'Entremont and Joe Ciccone in the round of 32. "I knew I had to execute and if I made the shots I needed to, I would pull it out." On the other side of the spectrum, Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., swept defending champion Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y. Duke will face Ryan Shafer, Elmira, N.Y., who ousted Mike Shoemaker, Conroe, Texas, 4-3. Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., shot 300 en route to coming back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Tom Baker, Buffalo, N.Y., 4-3. Weber will face Steve Jaros, Bolingbrook, Ill., in the round of 8 after Jaros slid by Mika Koivuniemi, Finland, 4-3. Both Weber and Jaros are assured of making the five-man finals after finishing qualifying in the top two spots, respectively. |

【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 3】 Duke Marches On
Norm Duke After missing two of the last three PBA Tour events, Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla., returned in a big way, advancing to the round of 16 in the PBA Empire State Open Friday evening at Bowlers Club. Duke, who took time off to rest an injured left arm, defeated rookie Brandon Hilgendorf, Clinton Township, Mich., four-games-to-one in the round of 32. He will move on to face defending champion, Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y. "I'm fine...(my arm) doesn't hurt that bad, and it hasn't affected my bowling," said Duke. "I do feel like I'm re-starting this segment, even though I've already won this season." In other matches, Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., needed seven games to beat Tim Penner, Wichita, Kan. Penner, up 3-2 and leading by 11 pins in the 10th frame of the 6th game, inadvertently took a third re-rack, giving him a zero for the frame. That gave Williams, who went on to win the final game, a 239-208 victory. PBA rules state a player is allowed only two re-racks per game. Mike Machuga, Erie, Pa., beat Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., 4-3. Couch rolled a 300-game in their 5th game while Machuga responded with a perfect game in the following game. Last week's champion, Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., defeated Jeff Fehr, Cincinnati, 4-1. Also advancing was Chris Barnes, Dallas, with a 4-1 victory over rookie Chris Johnson, Garland, Texas. Joe Ciccone, Buffalo, N.Y., converted a 7-10 split in his 4th game against Rick Steelsmith, Wichita, Kan., but fell to the two-time PBA Tour title winner, 4-0.
【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 2】 Weber Takes Charge in the Empire State
Pete Weber Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., finished qualifying with a 4,191 18-game pinfall Friday to the lead the PBA Empire State Open at Bowlers Club. Weber, who finished yesterday's qualifying in second, one pin behind Mike Machuga, Erie, Pa., said he feels better than he has in the past few years. "I've been feeling it on the lanes this year," said Weber, who averaged 229 over nine games Friday. "I bowled really well the past few weeks, but I just haven't got the breaks I needed to advance." Yesterday's qualifying leader, Machuga, finished with 4,091 and slipped to 7th while defending champion, Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y., moved into 4th with 4,136. Local favorite Brian LeClair, Athens, N.Y., shot 264 in his final game to qualify for the round of 32. LeClair, who finished tied for 38th in the first round, shot 3,932 and moved up into a tie for 28th. "I'm ecstatic with the way I shot that last game," said LeClair. "I knew the only chance I had to make it into the round of 32 was to shoot high that last game." Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., averaged 225.78 Friday and moved into 23rd after finishing tied for 55th yesterday. Allen, who was last week's champion at the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open, rolled 3,954 and is second in the PBA World Point Rankings behind Brad Angelo, Lockport, N.Y., who was 27th after qualifying. |

【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 1 - B Squad】 Healey Torches the Lanes
Patrick Healey Jr. Patrick Healey Jr., Mexico City, shot a 2,127 nine-game pinfall Thursday evening to lead the second of two qualifying squads in the PBA Empire State Open at Bowlers Club. Healey, who led qualifying two weeks ago in the PBA Toledo Open and made the finals as the wild card, made some adjustments early on to take advantage of the changing lane conditions "I saw the lanes changing early and made some adjustments," said Healey, who lost to Riga Kalfas in the round of 16 last week. "It's all about who makes the right changes, and when they make those changes." Despite Healey's score, Mike Machuga, Erie, Pa., maintained the overall lead with 2,131, one pin better than Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo. Healey is 3rd heading into tomorrow, four pins behind Machuga. Current PBA World Point Rankings leader, Brad Angelo, Lockport, N.Y, slid into the round of 64, qualifying 62nd. Also making the cut were Chris Barnes, Dallas, in 6th place and last week's winner, Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., who is tied for 55th. David Traber, Woodstock, Ill., and Matt McFayden, Derby, Kan., each rolled 300 games, marking the first time since the PBA Miller High Life Open that two or more bowlers rolled perfect games in the same tournament. For Traber, it was his 43rd career PBA Tour perfect game and it was McFayden's first.
【PBA】 PBA Empire State Open 【Round 1 - A Squad】 Machuga Leads Early Qualfying
Mike Machuga Mike Machuga, Erie, Pa., had a 2,131 nine-game pinfall to take a narrow lead over Hall of Famer Pete Weber after early qualifying in the PBA Empire State Open at Bowlers Club Thursday afternoon. "I just drilled up a couple of new balls yesterday, and made a few adjustments in my game," said Machuga. "I bowled well the past five weeks, but it just hasn't come together at the right time." Machuga, who made the championship round of the season-opening PBA Banquet Open, began the day with games of 245, 276 and 264. Machuga trailed Weber, St. Ann, Mo., by 41 pins heading into the final qualifying game. Machuga shot a 234 while Weber countered with a 192, giving the three-year pro an early one-pin lead. Tim Mack, Garfield, N.J., was third with 2,084 while Jason Hurd, Titusville, Fla. was fourth with 2,083. Norm Duke, owner of 21 career PBA Tour titles, is 13th with 1,997. Duke, Clermont, Fla., withdrew from the PBA Miller High Life Open, then missed two of the next three Tour events recovering from a left arm injury. Defending PBA Empire State Open champion Doug Kent, Newark, N.Y., is currently sixth with 2,064. Left-hander Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., is currently 10th with 2,029. |

【PBA】 PBA Greater Philadelphia Open 【Final】 Allen Outstanding in Springfield
Patrick Allen Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., converted a difficult 2-4-7-10 split en route to beating Danny Wiseman, Baltimore, 200-178, in the final game of the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open at Sproul Lanes Sunday afternoon. Wiseman, who won $20,000, had struck in the 5th frame before Allen converted his split to take a one-pin lead. "You leave that spare a lot out here," said Allen, who won $40,000 and now has two PBA Tour titles. "Guys are pretty good at converting that one out here. I have to hit the 2-pin on the left, and then I have a good chance at it." After Wiseman failed to convert a 2-10 split in the in the 7th frame, Allen took advantage with a strike followed by a spare in the 8th frame. The win secures Allen a spot in this season's PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions in December. Allen started the day as the 28th and final bowler on the list, but his victory vaults him to the top of that list. The first semi-final featured Allen beating Rick Steelsmith, Wichita, Kan., 233-185, as Allen struck in frames 2-6. 【PBA】 PBA Greater Philadelphia Open 【Round 2】 Forkel First After Qualifying
Eric Forkel Eric Forkel, Las Vegas, led qualifying with a 4,134, 18-game pinfall Friday evening in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Greater Philadelphia Open at Sproul Lanes. Forkel used a 279 high-game on the night, and shot above 224 in every game until he closed out his evening with a 170 mark. He had been tied for 31st coming into the second round of qualifying. The round of 64 was pushed back to 5 p.m. due to Thursday night's high winds which caused a power outage in the Springfield area. The second group of initial qualifying had to finish their first nine games Friday afternoon. "The delays weren't a good situation, but you try to make the best of it," said Forkel, who owns five PBA Tour titles. "It was no one's fault. Mother nature just took over." Tim Criss, Bel Air, Md., was second with 4,123 while Mike Scroggins, Amarillo, Texas, who is third in the current World Point Rankings, was third with 4,114. Tommy Delutz Jr., Flushing, N.Y., was seventh with 4,091, and will be the top seed heading into match play. Delutz has the highest point total of the remaining 32 bowlers over the past 20 PBA Tour events with 251,085. Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J., entered the final game of the evening 60 pins out of the final spot, but rolled a 299 to finish in 28th place with 3,930. Joe Pompilio, Wall, N.J., secured the final spot for tomorrow's round of 32 match play with 3,911. Randy Pedersen, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., returned to the site of his PBA Pepsi Open title win last season and missed the cut by two pins.

Peter Hernandez, Miami, shot 2,104 and led the second squad, finishing 7th for the first round. Tommy Jones, Greenville, S.C., edged into the round of 64 in the final spot, winning a one-game roll-off with James Wallace, North Babylon, N.Y., 211-192. |

【PBA】 PBA Greater Philadelphia Open 【Round 1 - A Squad】 Wiseman Fires To Early First Round Lead
Danny Wiseman Danny Wiseman, Baltimore, averaged 242.22 over nine games to lead the first of two qualifying squads Thursday afternoon in the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open at Sproul Lanes. Wiseman, who finished tied for third last week at the PBA Toledo Open, continued his hot streak, averaging 264.20 from games four through eight and finished with a 2,180 nine-game pinfall. "I made a good adjustment on some really tricky lanes," said Wiseman. "I had to move a lot and luckily for me when I switched lanes, the shot was relatively the same." Wes Malott, who shot the first 300 game since Brian Himmler's perfect game in the round of 8 in the PBA Miller High Life Open almost three weeks ago, finished second to Wiseman after the first squad. "I just made some adjustments and hoped for the best," said Malott, who also shot 299 in his second game. "I had to change my hand position to get more spin on the ball, and if the lanes stay the same tomorrow, I should do very well." Mike Aulby appears to have qualified for the second consecutive week after shooting 1,997. Mike Scroggins (2,131), Lonnie Waliczek (1,990) and Randy Pedersen (2,006) also have a good chance to advance. Chris Barnes (1,849), Amleto Monacelli (1,955), Parker Bohn III (1,938) and PBA World Point Rankings leader Mika Koivuniemi (1,941) are among the names that will need some luck to get through to the round of 64. |

【PBA】 PBA Toledo Open 【Final】 Jaros Tops Johnson in Final
Steve Jaros Sitting on the sidelines, all Steve Jaros could do was watch. Needing a spare in the last frame, Chris Johnson left the 2-4-10 split, and then couldn't knock down the 10-pin, giving Jaros the title, 224-222, Sunday in the PBA Toledo Open at Southwyck Lanes. "Chris (Johnson) bowled great in the finals," said Jaros, who won $40,000 to go along with his fourth career PBA Tour title. "Things could have gone either way and luckily I came out on top." Jaros struck to start the 10th frame, then converted the 6-9-10 to open the door up for Johnson, who won $20,000. However, Johnson gave the match right back to Jaros after missing his split conversion. "I just got a little too much loft on the last shot, but I thought I threw it well," said Johnson, who is the leading candidate for PBA Rookie of the Year. "I wish I could have won the title, but I'm not disappointed at the way I bowled." In the wild card match, Jaros took on high-qualifier Patrick Healey Jr. After opening in the 6th frame, Jaros threw the next three strikes en route to defeating Healey, 209-195. In the first semifinal, Johnson took on PBA veteran Danny Wiseman, who had won 10 previous titles. The rookie outdueled the seasoned-pro to get to the finals, winning 224-172. In the other semifinal, Jaros faced Amleto Monacelli, who is the only international member of the PBA Hall of Fame. Monacelli, who converted two difficult spares during the match, needed to strike twice in the 10th frame, but left the 10-pin on his first shot, losing 226-207. Jaros is the fourth semifinalist ever to come from the wild card match to win a title. The last was Healey, who accomplished the feat last year in Blue Springs, Mo. Healey won $9,000 for his fifth place finish, while Wiseman and Monacelli took $10,000 for tying for third. |

【PBA】 PBA Toledo Open 【Round 5】 Monacelli Masterful in Win
Amleto Monacelli Amleto Monacelli, looking for his first PBA Tour title since November 5, 1997, advanced to the championship round Saturday evening with a four-games-to-one win over Mike Aulby in the round of 8 in the PBA Toledo Open at Southwyck Lanes. "I've been looking to just go step-by-step this week," Monacelli said. "If you don't look at it like that, it's just too much pressure. I've been doing everything right, both mentally and physically." Monacelli took an early 2-0 lead thanks in part to a converted 1-2-4-10 washout in the 3rd frame of the second game. Aulby, who was down 2-0 in the round of 32 to Chris Sand, rebounded to take game three, 223-180. Monacelli tossed games of 256 and 247 to seal the victory. A battle of PBA Tour rookies was won by Chris Johnson, 4-3, over Ronnie Russell. With the match tied at 1-1, Russell threw strikes in 21 of 24 frames over the next two games to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Johnson started his comeback with a 213-171 win in game five, followed by a 37-pin win in game six. The 26-year old from Garland, Texas, closed out the match by striking twice in the 10th frame of the seventh game. Danny Wiseman, looking for his 11th Tour title, needed seven games to beat Patrick Healey Jr., 4-3, striking seven times in the final game to seal the victory. Healey, the top qualifier this week, moves on to the championship round as the wild card. Steve Jaros will be making his 26th televised championship round appearance after defeating Jason Queen, 4-1. Jaros, who owns three career PBA titles, rolled games of 256, 257, 258 and 259 in his four wins.
【PBA】 PBA Toledo Open 【Round 4】 Wiseman Into the Round of 8
Danny Wiseman Danny Wiseman, Baltimore, advanced to the round of 8 for the first time this season Saturday afternoon in the PBA Toledo Open after defeating Paul Fleming four-games-to-two in the round of 16 at Southwyck Lanes. Wiseman was down 2-1 before reeling off three straight to close out the match. Despite winning, Wiseman chalks his win up to planning and making the right changes. "The lanes were changing so fast that I had to think two and three shots ahead to be able to figure out what ball I would be using," said Wiseman. "Paul (Fleming) and I were playing the same line so the shot was getting burned up, and I just made the right changes at the right time." Wiseman will face top qualifier Patrick Healey Jr., who beat Mika Koivuniemi, 4-3. Healey, the top qualifier this week, is assured of making the finals as the wildcard if he loses against Wiseman. In the match-up of the Hall-of-Famers, Mike Aulby defeated Pete Weber, 4-1. In the fifth game, Weber struck and needed a spare in the 10th frame to tie Aulby. However, he left the 3-5-9 and then missed the 3-pin to hand the game, and the match, to Aulby, 210-209. Aulby will now go on to face another Hall-of-Famer, Amleto Monacelli, who won a close match with Doug Kent, 4-3. Monacelli was down 3-2 before winning the last two games to move on. Two rookies will face off in the round of 8 after winning their respective matches. Chris Johnson, the highest ranking PBA rookie, defeated Bryon Smith, 4-2. Johnson will go against Ronnie Russell, who beat Rick Lawrence, 4-2. |

Aulby tossed eight strikes in the decisive seventh game to advance to the round of 16 for the first time this season. "In a seven-game match, you just have to keep knocking and start to chip away," Aulby said. "I was finally able to get lined up, and I had the momentum in the last couple games." Aulby's task does not get any easier, as he will go up against top seed and fellow PBA Hall of Famer, Pete Weber. In other matches, Mika Koivuniemi advanced to the round of 16 for the third time this season with a sweep of Don Yoshihara. He will take on area bowler Mark Moore, Macomb, Mich., who is the 32nd seed. "It's a matter of what pair I get and how the other guy is bowling," said Weber about his forthcoming match with Moore. "But my mind is set on staying calm and making good shots to win." Patrick Healey Jr. continued his tear and led after 18 games, finishing with 4,042. Healey will take on Ricky Ward in match play. Healey threw a 2,079 nine-game pinfall, averaging 231.00 on the night to jump out to an early lead. After struggling through the first four tournaments, Healey feels his luck is starting to change. "I had some good breaks, especially in the last few games," said Healey, who had games of 233 and 237 before ending with a 266. "Things haven't been going my way lately, but hopefully everything will turn around after today." Making a nice run on the day was 25-year pro Mike Aulby, who finished third, 43 pins back of Healey. "I think I really shot well today," said Aulby. "Hopefully I can keep this going tomorrow and make match play." Pete Weber, Chris Barnes, Danny Wiseman, and two-time second place finisher this season, Mika Koivuniemi, were among the names making the cut to the top-64 from the 194-man field. 【PBA】 PBA Pepsi Open 【Final】 Couch Rules the Day
Jason Couch Jason Couch, Clermont, Fla., spared and struck in the final frame of the championship game in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Pepsi Open Sunday at Spectrum Lanes to defeat Steve Wilson, 187-177. Wilson never led in the title match, opening in the first frame after leaving the 4-9 split and then missing both pins. That was all the room Couch needed, as he struck five times en route to his 11th career PBA Tour title. "I knew I had to get lined up early before Steve (Wilson) got going," said Couch, who won $40,000. "I made shots when it counted, and that's what made the difference in the match." Wilson, who took home $20,000, advanced to the final game by defeating Lonnie Waliczek in the wild card match, 215-169. Wilson converted two difficult splits in the game, knocking down the 2-10 in the 5th frame and the 4-7-10 in the 9th. In his next hurdle, Wilson took on Jeff Smith, who was making his first career finals appearance. Smith didn't stand a chance as Wilson struck 10 times in his 259-163 victory. In the other semi-final game, Mike Scroggins took on Couch for the right to go to the title match. Scroggins, who lost the past two weeks in the semi-finals, again couldn't find a way to win, as Couch beat him, 215-200. Smith and Scroggins tied for third, and won $10,000 while Waliczek earned $9,000 for his fifth place finish. Couch, the three-time consecutive Tournament of Champions winner, gained a spot in next season's all-exempt, 64-man field. The victory also moved Couch into sixth place on the PBA Tour World Point Rankings with 49,000 points. |

Smith, 40, took the first two games from Steelsmith, including a 246-224 win in the second game. After dropping the third game, Smith rebounded to win the next two and move on to his first career television finals appearance. "I think I'll be nervous with the setting and the lights," Smith said. "I'm an outgoing person though, and I'll put on a good show. I've dreamed about doing this." A part-time member on the PBA Tour since 1993, Smith had finished no better than 101st this season. In other matches, Mike Scroggins defeated Pete Weber, 4-1, to advance to his third consecutive championship round appearance. The last bowler to accomplish that feat was Walter Ray Williams Jr., who twice appeared on three straight shows last season. "You have to have some luck out there," Scroggins said. "I just feel like I've been bowling well enough to win matches, but I'm getting lucky along the way." Down 2-1, Jason Couch rebounded to top Brad Angelo, 4-2, and advance to his first finals appearance of the season. The 10-time PBA Tour title winner will face Scroggins in the semi-final match. Lonnie Waliczek, a two-time PBA Tour title winner, defeated Steve Wilson, 4-1, to advance to his second championship round of the season. 【PBA】 PBA Pepsi Open 【Round 4】 Scroggins Continues His Winning Ways
Mike Scroggins Mike Scroggins has been on one of the best runs of his career, and that streak continued Saturday afternoon in the PBA Pepsi Open at Spectrum Lanes, with Scroggins advancing to the round of 8. Scroggins, who has made the five-man finals each of the last two weeks, is looking for his second career PBA Tour title. His first came back in 1992 in Sacramento, Calif. "I'm bowling the best I ever have right now," said Scroggins, who defeated Joe Ciccone four-games-to-two in the round of 16. "Last year I bowled well, but I didn't have the luck I'm having this year in match play." Scroggins will go on to face Pete Weber, who came back from an early 2-0 defecit to defeat Rick Lawrence, 4-3. Weber struck twice to close out Lawrence, 205-201, in the final game. Jason Couch cemented a finals appearance by beating Eric Forkel, 4-1. Couch gained entry into the finals because he is the highest remaining qualifier, finishing third in his first 18 games. Couch will go on to face Brad Angelo, who defeated Dennis Horan Jr., 4-2. Angelo ranks third in the PBA World Point Rankings, and with a title win, he would own the top spot. In other matches, Jeff Smith earned his first career round of 8 appearance with a 4-2 victory over Dave Arnold. He will face two-time PBA Tour champion Rick Steelsmith, who came back from a 2-0 hole against Ricky Ward to win, 4-2. Lonnie Waliczek also advanced by winning the last two games of his match against Chris Hayden to win, 4-3. Waliczek will try for his second finals appearance of the season, but will have to go through Steve Wilson, who held off a charging James Wallace, 4-2. |
